SOUND BOWL THERAPY
THERAPIST:
ÁGNES HARSÁNYI-NAGY
Sound Bowl Therapy or Sound Massage is a non-touch massage that uses Peter Hess® therapeutic sound bowls to restore harmony to the body, mind and spirit. The massage helps to relieve stress and many health problems, raises the vibration level and triggers the body's self-healing processes.
During the massage, the therapist places bowls of different sizes on different parts of the patient's body and then hits the bowls softly with a felt paddle. The vibrations produced by the bowls are then applied to the body surface, and the vibrations flow through the body in concentric circles. Since about three quarters of our body is made up of water, it is an excellent transmitter of sound waves. When the body is free of blockages, sound vibrations pass easily through it, exiting at the toes and ends of the hairs, but first they vibrate to the muscles and internal organs, and move, practically massaging, all of our 100 trillion or so cells.
Another effect of sound massage is that the sounds can easily and quickly put the patient into a relaxed state. This restful state between sleep and wakefulness is known to be beneficial for our physical and mental functioning. A unique feature of singing bowls, unlike other relaxation techniques, is that they not only deliver the stimulus to the brain through the ear, but also through the skin (i.e. two channels) as an extra sensation, and then circulate it throughout the body. Repeated treatments help you experience inner peace and harmony, boost the body's ability to heal itself and gather energy for everyday tasks.
Sound massage is not a substitute for medical treatment, but the vibrations produced by the singing bowls have many beneficial effects and can help the body's self-healing processes. They can relieve stress-induced tension, improve and deepen breathing, strengthen the immune system, release energy blocks, and relieve tension and pain in the neck, shoulders, back and lower back muscles. Sound Bowl Therapy can also help with headaches and sleep disorders, as well as digestive and abdominal disorders, pain, improve concentration and motivation.
