MINDFULNESS

MEDITATION LEADER:
ANDREA MEZŐ

Mindfulness meditation is a mental state that involves complete focus on the here and now, during which we can be aware of our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences without judgment. During practice, we concentrate on our inner world while sitting in a specified position. It is usually done for a set period of time and focuses on specifics, such as the flow of our breath or the arrival and departure of thoughts. We do not identify with them or judge them – we simply observe them curiously, accept them, and make mental notes about them. This type of meditation is not about blocking thoughts but rather about being a vigilant witness to the process. With practice, it improves sleep quality and stress management abilities, as well as attention, concentration, and it also reduces chronic pain and anxiety. Moreover, mindfulness meditation increases the gray matter in the brain and supports the integrative activity of the central nervous system.
